CAF Grenade +++

Yet another example of Civilians using readily avail able CAF ammunition for illegal purposes, the CAF grenade, as it is becoming known, has no connection to official CAF manufacturing, but instead employs roughly 25 to 30 of their 5mm rounds in its make up. After they've been dismantled the propellant from these rounds is then used to power a crude, hand thrown, grenade type weapon. The outer casing of the grenade is general formed from some sort of metal container, with soft drinks/beer cans being particularly popular, a fact that lends a certain amount of uniformity to the design. The propellant charge is placed in the center of this container and the gap between it and the outer casing packed with nails, ball bearings or other hard material. A simple fuse system and safety catch is then added to allow easy activation and give a slight delay so the weapon can be thrown, although some examples have also been found with impact detonators (see CAF Grenade Launcher). Manufacturing techniques are dubious and reliability is often not good with many of these grenades either failing to go of f or detonating prematurely causing injury to the user. Despite this armour penetration and damage is fairly impressive, especially if the body of the grenade has been packed with a material that provides good shrapnel, and operatives should be wary if the y have low armour types. Where the design for these weapons originates is unknown, although it is most likely from either a source within DarkNight or one of the notorious 'How To' booklets produced by 'Black Wolf' publishing and known to be in widespread circulation throughout Downtown Mort.
